Turkiye’s natural gas imports decreased in July

Turkiye’s natural gas imports decreased by 11.15% in July compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching approximately 3 billion 30 million 96 thousand cubic meters.

According to the “Natural Gas Market Sector Report” of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority for July, approximately 2 billion 547 million 78 thousand cubic meters of imports were made through pipelines and 483 million 18 thousand cubic meters were made through liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities.

While natural gas imports via pipelines decreased by approximately 15.88% in July compared to the same month of the previous year, LNG imports increased by 26.22%. Total natural gas imports decreased by 11.15% in this period, reaching approximately 3 billion 30 million 96 thousand cubic meters.

While the highest natural gas import was from Russia with 1 billion 664 million 26 thousand cubic meters in July, this country was followed by Azerbaijan with 883 million 52 thousand cubic meters and Algeria with 483 million 18 thousand cubic meters.

Natural gas imports from Algeria increased by 26.22%, natural gas imports from Azerbaijan increased by 24.44% and imports from Russia increased by 14.92%. There were no natural gas imports from Iran in July.

Gas consumption of residences increased by 46.6%

During the said period, natural gas consumption in the country increased by 9.83% and reached approximately 3 billion 3 million cubic meters.

Natural gas consumption of the industrial sector was recorded as approximately 926 million cubic meters, with a decrease of 6.44%. Natural gas consumption in power plants increased by 13.8% and reached 1 billion 157 million 37 thousand cubic meters.

Natural gas consumption in residences increased by 46.6% in this period, reaching 363 million cubic meters.

Natural gas stock amount increased

The amount of natural gas stock in Turkiye increased by 49.74% in July compared to the same month last year, reaching approximately 5 billion 43 million cubic meters.

4 billion 691 million cubic meters (93%) of the natural gas stock is in underground storage facilities, and 351 million cubic meters (6.98%) is in LNG terminals.
