Investing in Turkiye by the world’s leading technology companies has brought about an increase in quality and capacity in domestic mobile phone production. While the trend towards domestically manufactured mobile phones was reflected in the figures, the number of devices manufactured last year increased to 6 million 904 thousand 630 units.
The production in question not only contributed to employment and high-tech R&D experience in Turkiye, but also had an impact on exports. As of this year, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) for smartphones started to produce foreign trade data.
According to TUIK data, 62 thousand 653 smartphones worth $9.4 million were exported from Turkiye in the 7 months of this year.
More than half of smartphone exports go to the Netherlands
Smartphones were exported to 28 countries from Turkiye in the January-July period. 53% of this was done in the Netherlands. 14 thousand 756 smartphones worth $5 million were sent to the country in question.
9,800 smartphones with a value of $861 thousand were exported to Lebanon from Turkiye, 4 thousand 247 smartphones with a value of $786 thousand were exported to the TRNC, and 11 thousand 930 smartphones with a value of $746 thousand were exported to China. 8,702 smartphones with a value of $519 thousand were exported to the United Arab Emirates, 985 smartphones with a value of $334 thousand were exported to Kosovo, and 3 thousand 790 smartphones with a value of $231 thousand were exported to Hong Kong.
Smart watch and tablet export data
On the other hand, while a total of $65 million of smart watches, $23 million of tablets and laptop computers were exported from Turkiye last year, these figures were realized as $59 million and $13 million, respectively, in the 7-month period of this year.
