Unemployment up on monthly basis but down on yearly basis in January, official figures show
The unemployment rate in Türkiye was at 9.1% in January, up by 0.2 percentage point from December 2023, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) revealed on Monday.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate was down from 9.7% in January 2023, TurkStat’s data showed.
The number of unemployed persons totaled 3.2 million, up by 85,000 people, month on month in January.
The unemployment rate was at 7.7% for men and 11.7% for women in January.
“The number of employed persons increased by 160 thousand to 32 million 222 thousand persons in January 2024 compared to the previous month,” it noted.
The employment rate was calculated as 49%, up by 0.2 percentage point, in January.
