Russia is transferring $15 billion to Turkiye for the “Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant”

The Russian State Atomic Energy Agency is transferring $15 billion to be used in the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant. The first part of $5 billion of money came to Turkiye.

The Russian State Atomic Energy Agency (ROSATOM) has started to transfer $15 billion of its expenditures for the completion of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS) to Turkiye.

As a result of the talks between Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati with his Russian counterparts, $5 billion was transferred from Russia to Turkiye in the first place, within the scope of the Akkuyu NPP project. It is expected that the remaining part of the amount allocated for the investment will be transferred to the bank account of Akkuyu Nuclear Inc. in Turkiye by the end of next week.

AKKUYU IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST INVESTMENTS MADE IN ONCE

The agreement regarding Akkuyu NPP, which will be Turkiye’s first nuclear power plant, was signed with Russia in 2010.

The first unit of the power plant, which will have a total installed power of 4,800 megawatts with 4 reactors of 1200 megawatts each, is planned to be commissioned in 2023, when the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkiye will be celebrated.

It is possible to extend the operating life of the power plant, which is expected to be 60 years, for another 20 years, which can produce uninterrupted electricity with zero emissions, without emitting harmful greenhouse gases to the environment.

The production of Akkuyu NPP, which is one of the largest investments made in a single item in the country with a cost of approximately $20 billion, will meet 10% of Turkiye’s electricity demand.
