ROSATOM: The number of Turkish companies will increase in the Akkuyu NPP project

Russian State Atomic Energy Agency (ROSATOM) General Manager Alexey Likhachev stated that more than 80% of the employees at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS) field are Turkish citizens, and that this number and the total number of Turkish companies in the project will increase over time.

ROSATOM General Manager Alexey Likhachev, in a written statement before President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stated that they are pleased to work with Turkish companies at Akkuyu NPP.

Noting that the companies are pleased with the interest they have shown in the country’s largest project, Likhachev said, “We appreciate their perseverance, effort, willingness to gain experience and new competencies in the status of suppliers to the nuclear industry. Currently, approximately 25 thousand people work at the Akkuyu NPP site. More than 80% of this is composed of Turkish citizens working in Turkish construction companies, and this number will increase over time. The total number of Turkish companies in the project will also increase.”

Noting that they are aware that the management of such a large-scale and technically complex project brings great responsibilities to all participants, Likhachev said:

“We expect from every company that is a candidate to work here, first of all, to be approved of its ability to implement the determined tasks. ROSATOM’s transparent purchasing system is also successfully implemented in the field of Turkiye. The most qualified and experienced contractors work in the field. Our second condition is to fulfill the obligations undertaken in a very transparent, honest and meticulous manner. Finally, we would like to see the company do everything possible to contribute to the achievement of the goal of completing the construction of the first unit in 2023, set by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.”
