A RECORD RENT INCREASE RATE IN JANUARY

In January we left behind, the highest figures of 2021 came with an increase of 19.60% compared to the inflation figures of the previous December. In January, landlords and tenants wrote a 19.6% increase in their rental contracts. Now it’s time for the number to be written on the lease contracts in February.

HOW TO CALCULATE THE RENT INCREASE RATE?

February 3, 2022, the critical day for landlords and tenants, has begun. The data to be processed in the lease contracts until the end of February has been determined. Millions of tenants and owners across Turkey will be able to add the figures announced by TUIK this morning to the contracts. On the third business day of each month, TURKSTAT will start to write down the rent increase rate calculation, with the announcement of the previous month’s inflation figures. December 2021 inflation was announced this morning. Thus, the data, which is the twelve-month average figure written on the contracts as CPI, is added to the lease contracts. Landlords and tenants, who will renew their lease in January 2022, will be able to write the rental increase rates determined today for 12 months (one year) until the end of January 2023.

HOW MANY RENTAL INCREASES WILL BE MADE IN FEBRUARY?

The official figures announced by TURKSTAT, which we have stated below, will start to be written on the rental contracts, which will be valid as of today, in the rental contracts of workplaces and residences (Dwellings).

Consumer price index (CPI) increased by 48.69% annually and 11.10% monthly

CPI (2003=100) increased by 11.10% in January 2022 compared to the previous month. There was an increase of 11.10% compared to December of the previous year, 48.69% compared to the same month of the previous year and 22.58% compared to the averages of twelve months.
