Sakarya steps up in automotive production and exports in 2023

Sakarya, which managed to increase its automotive production and exports last year compared to 2022, contributed to the economy by selling 75.5% of the 269 thousand 284 vehicles it produced abroad.

Sakarya, which closed 2023 in 7th place in exports after Istanbul, Kocaeli, Bursa, Izmir, Ankara and Gaziantep, exported $5 billion 717 million 967 thousand to 153 countries and 11 free zones last year.

In Sakarya, which stands out in the sectors of automotive, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, chemicals and products, steel, air conditioning industry, machinery and parts, the highest export was made in the field of vehicles with $5 billion 45 million 405 thousand.

According to Automotive Industry Association data, Sakarya, which sent 195 thousand 147 of the 265 thousand 31 vehicles it produced in 2022 abroad, corresponding to 73.6%, further increased its production and foreign sales in the automotive field in 2023.

Accordingly, Toyota, Otokar and TurkTraktor companies, which increased their production by 4 thousand 253 units to 269 thousand 284 units, exported 203 thousand 397 vehicles, corresponding to 75.5%. Thus, 75 out of every 100 vehicles taken off the line were sold abroad.

In Sakarya, which has a 19.6% share in the country’s automotive exports, 738 vehicles were taken off the line last year, and 558 of them were exported.

Toyota became the leader in production and export

Toyota, Otokar and TurkTraktor companies operating in Sakarya produced 212 thousand 843 automobiles, 312 pickup trucks, 1899 buses, 1895 midibuses, 912 small trucks and 51 thousand 423 tractors in the said period.

Among the companies in the city, Toyota ranked first in production and exports, while TurkTraktor ranked second and Otokar ranked third.

The Toyota factory located in Arifiye district produced a total of 212 thousand 843 passenger-type Corolla, C-HR, Hybrid and Hilux models last year, and exported 184 thousand 797 vehicles, corresponding to 86.8% of this.

TurkTraktor, which produced 51 thousand 423 tractors last year, sold 16 thousand 16 vehicles abroad, corresponding to 31.1% of its production.

Otokar, one of Turkiye’s leading defense industry companies, exported 2,584 of the 5,018 vehicles it produced in 2023.
