Record exports of $14.2 billion in 8 months from ready-made clothing and apparel

The ready-to-wear and apparel industry achieved the highest January-August exports of all time, with exports of $14 billion 248 million in 8 months of the year.

According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), Turkiye’s exports increased by 13.1% in August compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to $21.3 billion. Thus, the highest August exports have been reached so far.

In January-August 2022, exports increased by 18.3% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $165.7 billion. Annualized export value exceeded $250.7 billion.

The ready-to-wear and apparel industry, which made an export of $1 billion 736 million in August 2021, achieved an export of $1 billion 842 million with an increase of 6.1% in the same period of this year.

In January-August 2022, the ready-made clothing and apparel industry realized an export of $14 billion 248 million with an increase of 10.9% compared to the same period of the previous year. Thus, the sector reached the highest January-August exports of all time.

$1.3 billion of the sector’s exports last month was made from Istanbul. Bursa was followed by Bursa with $152 million and Izmir with $123 million.

$9.8 billion of the sector’s exports of $14.2 billion in the January-August period of this year were realized from Istanbul, $1.2 billion from Bursa and $1 billion from Izmir.

The sector made the highest export sales to Germany in 8 months

In the ready-to-wear and apparel sector, Germany was the country with the highest export sales last month, with $314 million. Germany was followed by Spain with $256 million and the United Kingdom with $181 million. In the January-August period, the sector exported $2.5 billion to Germany, $1.8 billion to Spain and $1.4 billion to the United Kingdom.

Looking at the country groups to which the most exports were made last month, EU countries ranked first with $1.1 billion, other European countries with $238 million, and Commonwealth of Independent States countries with $153.4 billion.

When we look at the exports made to these country groups in 8 months, $8.8 billion were exported to EU countries, $1.8 billion to other European countries and $1 billion to Middle East countries.

According to TIM data, the ready-to-wear and apparel industry, which exported to 180 countries and regions last month, had a share of 8.6% in the country’s total exports in the same period.

Exporting to 212 countries and regions in the 8 months of this year, the sector had a share of 8.6% in the country’s total exports.
