Turkiye: Dried fig exports earned $258 million

Dried figs, of which Turkiye is the world leader in production and exports, generated $258 million in revenue in the 2021-2022 export season.

According to the statement made by the Aegean Exporters’ Associations, the export season covering October 6, 2021 – October 7, 2022 was left behind with 70 thousand 647 tons of exports.

Mehmet Ali Isik, Chairman of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, whose views were included in the statement, stated that Turkiye alone carries out 60% of the world’s dried fig exports.

Noting that they delivered Turkish figs to the people of 102 countries, Isik said that Europe had a 51% share in exports worth $258 million.

Isik noted that exports to the Americas increased by 2.3%, amounting to $53 million. “We exported $30 million to Asian, Oceania and Far East countries with an acceleration of 5.6%, $17 million to the Middle East countries with an increase of 19%, and $9.8 million to the Turkic Republics and Slavic countries.”

Emphasizing that they expect the yield and quality of dried figs to be high in the 2022-2023 season, Isik stated that they aim to increase their exports to $300 million by reaching 75 thousand tons.
