Real Estate

Real estate and land sales to foreigners exceeded 304 thousand in 21 years in Turkiye

The Ministry of Interior shared the data on real estate sales to foreigners. According to the data of the Ministry, from January 1, 2002 to July 19, 2023, 28 million 320 thousand 28 square meters of land, 289 thousand 412 residences and workplaces were sold to foreigners. In this period, the number of land sales was 15 thousand 812.

Despite the housing crisis, while the sale of real estate to foreigners continued at full speed, the Ministry of Interior received a response to CHP Istanbul Deputy Ozgur Karabat’s written question regarding the sale of real estate to foreigners.

According to the data of the Ministry of Interior, which responded to Karabat’s question, between January 1, 2002 and July 19, 2023, 28 million 320 thousand 28 square meters of land, 289 thousand 412 residences and workplaces were sold to foreigners.

In this period, the number of land sales was 15 thousand 812.

IT IS EFFECTIVE IN RISING PRICES

Evaluating the data, Karabat emphasized that the citizens could not find a house to live in, and stated that the AKP offered the land of their homeland to foreigners.

Reminding that citizenship is sold to foreigners in exchange for housing purchases, Karabat stated that foreigners dominate the real estate market and play an important role in increasing prices.

‘SOLD LAND SIZE IS EQUAL TO BAKIRKOY’S AREA ‘

Explaining that land sales to foreigners has also become an important problem, Karabat noted that the size of the land sold in the last 21 years is equal to the area of Bakirkoy.

Karabat said, “The AKP, saying that the money will come anyway, has made foreigners an important actor in Turkiye with its housing and land sales. With the increase in construction costs, the entry of foreigners into the market caused prices to rise even more. Housing prices for sale and rent doubled”

Noting that he faced a housing crisis for the first time in the history of the Republic, with the effect of sales to foreigners, and that landlords and tenants faced each other and even murders were committed, Karabat said, “The AKP only watched this situation.”

‘IT HAS BECOME A NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE’

Karabat said that there should be a restriction on the sale of residences and land to foreigners, and that the practice of selling citizenship in return for the purchase of housing should be terminated as soon as possible.

Karabat said:

“The law and land sales to foreigners are becoming a matter of national security. This problem causes both security and economic problems. Due to unquestioning sales to foreigners, Turkiye has become a center for international criminals.

Almost every month, it turns out that an international criminal settles in Turkiye in this way. Those who commit crimes such as drugs, black money and weapons smuggling come to Turkiye to both launder their money and protect themselves by obtaining citizenship. We are facing a terrible situation.”
