The producers of grain, pulses, oilseeds and their products in Southeast Anatolia want to get a bigger share from the African market, whose exports are increasing day by day.
Celal Kadooglu, President of the Southeastern Anatolia Grain, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association, met with the journalists in the city and evaluated the developments of the sector in exports and markets.
Kadooglu said that they are working to include their sectors in new markets and to get more shares in their existing markets.
Expressing that African countries have great sympathy for Turkiye and its products due to Turkiye’s aid to Africa in the past, Kadooglu said, “Work was done to turn this into an opportunity, a delegation was immediately formed and sent to Somalia, Ethiopia and Djibouti.”
Kadooglu stated that the delegation met with tradesmen, bureaucrats and the best importers in these countries for a week.
Expressing that they started to work after they realized that the African market should be emphasized in the reports, Kadooglu continued as follows:
“We have a lot of products that can go to Africa. 42 importers from Djibouti, Somalia and Ethiopia were brought to Gaziantep and we received an order of approximately 2 million dollars that day. Exporters from Diyarbakir, Sanliurfa and Malatya came and brought their samples and participated in the bilateral meetings, which made me proud. Pasta, sunflower oil and flour sector are our products that will go to Djibouti, Somalia and Ethiopia. Gaziantep is located in these 3 sectors. We’ve been in Africa before, but less. What we see is great potential there and there is a good relationship towards our country.”
