Uber Turkiye’s goal in Istanbul is to expand taxi reservations

Global technology platform Uber shared its 2023 results, innovative projects and 2024 predictions for the Turkish market.

Uber, which started out with the idea of going wherever you want by pressing a single button, is now one of the global initiatives that enable travel in 6 continents, 70 countries and more than 10 thousand cities.

According to our information, in 2023, it recorded a transaction volume of over $137 billion throughout the year with 150 million active platform users worldwide.

Stating that Turkiye will be one of the fastest growing countries for Uber in 2023, Uber Turkiye General Manager Neyran Bahadirli said;

“We are currently operating with Uber Taxi service in Turkiye. Uber Yellow Taxi can be used actively in 10 cities, especially our largest cities Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Antalya, and in addition to Uber Yellow Taxi, Black Taxi, Yellow-Black Wide Taxi and Turquoise Taxi services can be used actively in Istanbul. Interest in using Uber among both passengers and taxi drivers has increased exponentially in the past year. During 2023, 45 thousand taxi drivers, mostly in Istanbul, used the Uber application. The Uber application was used to call a taxi 35 million times throughout the year, and the total number of downloads of the application in Turkiye exceeded 6.7 million. As Uber Turkiye, we leave behind 2023, which we completed with very successful results, and aim to continue this strong growth performance in 2024.”

Opportunities Uber offered in 2023

With the Uber Reservation feature, which was implemented in the last quarter of 2023, Uber offered its users the opportunity to make traditional taxi reservations through the application by planning their taxi trips in advance in Turkiye, for the first time in the world.

Uber uses its technology to create a reservation and have the taxi driver pick up the passenger from the location specified at the reservation time. Neyran Bahadirli said that they believe that the Uber Reservation service is an innovation that Uber has brought to the Taxi industry, especially in Istanbul.

“We believe that the Uber Reservation service is an innovation that Uber has brought to the Taxi industry, especially in Istanbul. Uber users will now be able to plan their taxi journeys in advance with the reservation service and have a more planned taxi experience in Istanbul and Ankara, and in other cities where Uber operates in the near future.”

With the “Reservation” option in the Uber application, users can reserve taxi rides at least 30 minutes in advance and up to 90 days in advance with a fixed additional reservation fee.

In 2023, in addition to Black Taxi, which provides service with luxury taxi minivans, Uber launched its Large Taxi product, which it launched in June, in Istanbul. It has also introduced a new product option to its users with the Large Taxi, which is ideal for families and groups of friends, has a larger seating area, and provides easy barrier-free boarding and disembarkation for people with special needs. Uber has also established partnerships with automotive companies and provided a ‘Vehicle Purchase Support’ program to taxi license plate owners in order to support the transformation from Yellow Taxi to both Black Taxi and the new Yellow-Black Wide Taxi category.

Uber continued to develop projects that benefit society by using its extensive transportation network in Istanbul in 2023, as it does every year. Uber, which offers its users in Istanbul the opportunity to easily donate books in cooperation with the Books for Everyone Foundation, collected all book donations free of charge and mediated their delivery to schools in need in Anatolia.

Uber will accelerate its growth with the Taxi Reservation feature in 2024

It plans to prioritize Taxi Booking as part of its 2024 strategy. It will accelerate its growth by expanding the reservation feature in the cities where it operates and offering its users an easier, more reliable and planned travel experience.
