Production of air ducts started at Akkuyu NPP

Work has begun on the production of air ducts used in the installation of ventilation systems at the construction site of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant.

According to the statement made by Akkuyu Nuclear Inc., the workshop, which is divided into various regions for procurement, assembly and welding, and the launch of ready-made products, also includes a section for decarbonizing the welding joints of air ducts.

The workshop produces round, square and rectangular air ducts to be used in the main facilities of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS), including the reactor sections and turbine buildings, as well as in the general buildings and structures of the power plant.

After the production of air ducts reaches full capacity, the production volume, which is important for the reliable operation of the nuclear power plant using the steel produced in Turkey, will be approximately 40 thousand square meters per year.

“Full-fledged production started in the workshop”

The control of the products, which are aimed to be produced at very high quality, is carried out in several stages.

Air ducts are sent for installation after passing strict access control with the participation of Akkuyu Nuclear Inc. experts.

Sergey Butckikh, First Deputy General Manager of Akkuyu Nuclear Inc. and Director of NGS Construction, said, “The decision to build a workshop for the production of air ducts at the Akkuyu NPP construction site was driven by the need to optimize the manufacturing timing and supply ready-made products to the mechanical assembly works departments. During the preparation and implementation of the project for the establishment of the air duct workshop, the experience of the construction of other nuclear power plants was used. At the current stage, full-fledged production has been started in the workshop.”
