Turkish salmon will be produced in Ardahan

Turkish salmon will be raised in the Kura River basin in Ardahan.

Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Muhammet Fatih Cineviz, said that they aim to produce aquaculture as well as animal husbandry and beekeeping in the city.

Stating that the private sector will carry out work in this scope in the Kura River basin within the borders of Oncul village of Cildir district in the spring, Cineviz said:

“Turkish nut cultivation has gained importance worldwide. We aim to produce 1500 tons of Turkish nut per year in Ardahan. The weight of one fish will be 250 grams. Our city has water resources with high potential for aquaculture. The borders through which the Kura River passes can be given as examples of these sources. If the projects and potential places planned to be put into operation in our city are evaluated, they will provide social and economic contributions as an alternative to livestock farming, which is a source of income. With the completion of the projects, the production capacity of 7.5 million baby fish and 2 thousand tons of salmon will be reached.”

Stating that 80 people will be employed in the city with the implementation of the project, Cineviz said, “In recent years, there has been a significant increase in our country’s aquaculture exports in parallel with the developments in aquaculture production and processing technologies.”
