The new airport, which was started to be built next to the old airport in 2018 in Tokat, has come to an end. Tokat New Airport will be opened with a ceremony that will be held with the participation of President Erdogan. The apron of the new airport, where large-bodied aircraft and cargo aircraft can also land, will have a parking capacity of 7 aircraft.
The airport, which was built in 1995 at the Pazar junction of the Tokat-Turhal highway, was closed to flights in 2001 due to some problems. The flights, which were stopped in 2008 at the airport, which started to serve again in 2006, resumed in 2010.
Scheduled flights at the airport have not been operated since April 2017. The minaret of the mosque in Kucukbaglar village, near the airport, where medium and large-bodied aircraft cannot land due to runway and infrastructure problems, was shortened in 2008 on the grounds that it poses a risk in terms of flight safety.

The directorate and other service units at the old airport were also moved to the new airport.
With the commissioning of the New Tokat Airport, which costs approximately ₺550 million, exports are expected to increase in Tokat, which is an agricultural city. It was stated that after the opening, there will be flights from the airport 7 days a week.
The new airport is scheduled to open today. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is also expected to attend the opening.
FIRST PASSENGER PLANE LANDED IN TOKAT’S NEW AIRPORT
Due to the fact that the existing airport is not suitable for the landing of large-bodied aircraft in Tokat, the construction of the new airport in Songut village has been completed. Before the opening, the first passenger plane landed on the area. The passenger plane of Turkish Airlines, flight number TK 2582, Tokat, landed at Tokat Airport at 10:28 with its 114 passengers from Istanbul Airport.
Passengers who came to their hometown from Istanbul thanked President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Due to the inability of large passenger planes to land at the old airport, flights in the city were stopped in 2017. After 5 years, the first passenger plane landed in the city.
