Nearly 7 million housings have been sold in Turkey since 2015

According to the data of Turkey Statistical Institute (TSI), 6 million 944 thousand 616 housings changed owners between September 2015 and August 2020 period.

In the said period, the highest housing sales were realized in 2017 with 1 million 409 thousand 314, while the numbers were 1 million 289 thousand 320 in 2015, 1 million 341 thousand 453 in 2016, 1 million 375 thousand 398 in 2018, 1 million 348 thousand 729 in 2019.

In the first 8 months of 2020, the total housing sales number is 1 million 24 thousand 534 thanks to the decrease in interest rates.

The most housing sales were seen in Istanbul and Ankara provinces

The highest housing sales number in the last 5 years is seen in Istanbul with 1 million 199 thousand 715; while the number is 720 thousand 124 in Ankara, 412 thousand 588 in Izmir, 313 thousand 735 in Antalya and 265 thousand 715 in Bursa.

The provinces with housing sales number over 50 thousand are respectively Mugla with 93 thousand, Diyarbakir with 92 thousand, Denizli with 84 thousand, Kahramanmaras with 79 thousand, Canakkale with 65 thousand, Trabzon with 62 thousand, Malatya with 60 thousand, Yalova with 53 thousand, Elazig and Ordu with 51 thousand.

Approximately 155 thousand houses were sold to foreigners in the 5-year period  

154 thousand 871 houses were sold to foreigners in the 5-year period. 39.8 percent of the houses purchased by foreigners during this period were in Istanbul; 61 thousand 734 houses were sold to foreigners in Istanbul, and the figure was recorded as 9 thousand 596 in the first 8 months of 2020.

During this 8-month period, 32 thousand 61 houses in Antalya, 8 thousand 904 in Bursa, 6 thousand 813 in Yalova, 7 thousand 856 in Ankara and 4 thousand 769 in Sakarya were sold to foreigners.

Iraqis purchased the most houses in Turkey in the 5-year period with 30 thousand 209 sales number. Iraqis were followed by Iranians with 15 thousand 83 housing sales, Saudi Arabians with 13 thousand 296, Russians with 11 thousand 228 and Kuwaitis with 10 thousand 137. Chinese also had an interest in buying a house in Turkey in this period; they bought 575 houses.
