Turkiye: The assets of the banking sector reached ₺11.3 trillion

As of May, the total asset size of the Turkish banking sector increased by 22.7% compared to the end of 2021, reaching ₺11 trillion 303.7 billion.

The “Unconsolidated Main Indicators of the Turkish Banking Sector” report for the period of May 2022 was published by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK).

According to the report, the asset size of the banking sector in May amounted to ₺11 trillion 303 billion 700 million. While the total assets of the sector increased by ₺2 trillion 88 billion 237 million compared to the end of 2021, its proportional equivalent was 22.7%.

Compared to the end of 2021 in May, loans, the largest asset item of the sector, increased by 24% to ₺6 trillion 79 billion 442 million, and the total securities increased by 25.5% to ₺1 trillion 853 billion 777 million. In this period, the NPL ratio of loans was 2.61%.

Deposits rose to ₺6 trillion 580 billion

Deposits, which are the biggest source of funds among banks’ resources, increased by 24.1% in May compared to the end of 2021 and rose to ₺6 trillion 580 billion 985 million.

In the same period, the total equity reached ₺1 trillion 11 billion 762 million with an increase of 41.7%. As of the end of May, the sector’s net profit for the period was ₺132 billion 101 million, and the capital adequacy standard ratio was 18.15%.
