Minister Varank: TOGG will start mass production at the end of 2022

Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank stated that the domestic automobile TOGG will start mass production at the end of 2022, “All brands are switching to electric. Battery investments are being announced all over Europe. We actually started this automobile project just in time. There are already brands that have been producing automotive for 100 years. We didn’t have a chance to race in the same lane with them and beat them, but since we entered the electric car market with them at the same time, we can now say that we are in this race.”

Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank said, “I hope that if nothing goes wrong, we will see Turkey’s car come off the mass production line at the end of 2022.”

In Aksaray, where Varank came to watch the TEKNOFEST Rocket Competition held in Salt Lake under the leadership of Roketsan and TUBITAK SAGE, he reminded AA correspondent that Turkey’s Automobile Initiative Group (TOGG) was established on 25 June 2018 under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

SIGNIFICANT PROGRESSES HAVE BEEN MADE IN ONLY 3 YEARS

Stating that important steps have been taken in the automobile production process in the last 3 years, Varank reminded that the features of the domestic car were shared with the public for the first time in the promotion, which was held on 27 December 2020 with the participation of President Erdogan under the name of “Turkey’s Automobile Enterprise Group Innovation Journey Meeting”.

“TOGG WILL START MASS PRODUCTION AT THE END OF 2022”

Stating that everything is continuing as planned in Turkey’s Automobile Project, Varank said, “As you know, the construction of our factory has begun. The construction continues at full speed. We have already announced that our cars will be removed from the band at the end of 2022. At the moment, there is no change in that calendar. Hopefully, if nothing goes wrong, at the end of 2022, we will see Turkey’s car come off the mass production line.”

“TURKEY CAUGHT THE OPPORTUNITY AT THE RIGHT TIME”

Noting that the issue of electric cars is currently on the agenda of the whole world, Varank said, “The automotive industry is undergoing a very rapid transformation. Global brands have started to declare that they will no longer produce almost any internal combustion engine vehicles. When we look at it, we are aware that we have seized this opportunity at the right time. Hopefully, when Turkey’s Automobile Project is concluded together with TOGG, we will have taken part in this sector successfully. We believe in that.”

“WE ACTUALLY STARTED THIS CAR PROJECT ON TIME”

Stating that it was a very correct decision to make Turkey’s car electric, Varank said:

“When we announced that Turkey’s Automobile would be a 100% electric vehicle with autonomous features, we received criticism from the industry. They said, ‘It’s early for electric vehicles. Hybrid maybe, but starting electric vehicles actually seems like a dream’ but at the point we’ve reached today, the industry is transforming very quickly. All brands are going electric. Battery investments are being announced all over Europe. We actually started this automobile project just in time. There are already brands that have been producing automotive for 100 years. We didn’t have a chance to race in the same lane as them and beat them, but since we entered the electric car market at the same time as them, we can now say that we are in this race.”

“WHOLE TURKEY SHOULDERED TURKEY’S CAR PROJECT”

Minister Varank underlined that all of Turkey is mobilized for Turkey’s Automobile, “Of course, the production facilities of Turkey’s Automobile project are in Gemlik, Bursa, but its suppliers are actually all over Turkey and they have chosen many suppliers from different cities at the moment. Therefore, when we look at the cities where those suppliers are located, we can say that not only a single city but the whole Turkey has shouldered Turkey’s Car Project.”

“WE HAVE A TARGET OF BRINGING OUR UNMANNED SPACE VEHICLE WE DESIGNED TO THE MOON”

Referring to the National Space Program, Varank said, “We recently announced our National Space Program and we are actually continuing to work intensively in line with those goals. One of our most important goals was the ‘lunar’ mission, and at the end of 2023, we aim to bring our unmanned spacecraft, which we designed ourselves, to the moon by using our own engines. Our teams are working hard towards this.”
