Metro Fast technology presented by Metro Turkey offers to customers a digital shopping experience that eliminates contact and checkout queues. Metro Turkey implemented the Metro Fast solution within the store in line with the contactless and fast shopping demand, which is increasing in importance for consumers especially with the pandemic.
Metro Fast enables the shopping to be completed quickly with machine learning technology; customers will be able to add their products to their shopping carts by scanning barcodes through the mobile application and make direct payments by verifying the basket within seconds at the end of the shopping via Metro Fast.
Customers will download the Metro Fast mobile application to their phones and scan the barcodes of the products they will purchase during shopping and add them to their shopping carts. After receiving all the products, by placing the shopping carts in the section called the electronic checkpoint, it provides the verification of the products in seconds thanks to machine learning and can reach the payment point without passing the products through the checkout. Customers who make the payment process can quickly complete their shopping without contact. Customers can also see and control the total amount of their shopping before they come to the cash register, and also follow the special prices offered to them during their shopping thanks to the Metro Fast application.

In order to optimize the customer experience, we first need to offer them a shopping experience with multiple choices. We are working on digital solutions that can be developed at any time with the feedback of customers, such as contactless payment, fast shopping, without waiting in line in stores via this mobile application. At the end of 2019, we implemented the ten-month Metro Fast pilot project, which will give our customers a brand new experience by focusing on supporting the physical experience with digital elements as well as designing the digital experience. So far, 25 thousand of our customers have used this solution. The two of our three customers who have used Metro Fast reused it within the last month and this proves the satisfaction of our customers.”
How does Metro Fast work?
You will be able to quickly make a contactless payment by following these steps:
- Download the Metro Fast app from the app stores for your iOS or Android smartphone.
- Scan the QR code on the shopping cart.
- Scan the barcode on your metro card.
- Scan the barcode of each product you buy and place it in the car.
- When you arrive at the checkout area, place the shopping cart at the Metro Fast electronic checkpoint and then scan the QR code to complete the verification.
- Complete your shopping by making your payment at the payment point.
The Metro Fast payment, which is currently being used actively in Kozyatagi, Gunesli, Kagithane in Istanbul, Etlik in Ankara, Nilufer in Bursa and Gaziemir in Izmir, will be implemented in other Metro stores in 2021.
