The number of tourists visiting Istanbul in June increased by 115% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 1 million 470 thousand 586.
According to the data of the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, 6 million 755 thousand 300 tourists visited the city in the first 6 months of this year.
1 million 470 thousand 586 tourists came to Istanbul in June, and 684 thousand 621 tourists came to Istanbul in the same month of last year. Accordingly, the number of tourists in June increased by 115% compared to the same month of 2021.
In June, 1 million 447 thousand 273 people came to the city by air and 23 thousand 313 people came by sea. The number of those arriving in Istanbul by air increased by 112% compared to last year, while the number of those arriving by sea increased by 619%.
1641 people came from Ataturk Airport, 382 thousand 551 from Sabiha Gokcen Airport and 1 million 63 thousand 81 from Istanbul Airport in June.
By sea, 2 thousand 216 foreign visitors came to the city from Tuzla Port, 18 thousand 649 from Karakoy Port, 250 from Sarayburnu Port and 955 from Zeytinburnu Port, 177 from Ambarli Port, 1003 from Haydarpasa Port, 11 from Marmara Port and 52 from Pendik Port.
72.29% of the tourists arriving by air used Istanbul Airport and 26.01% used Sabiha Gokcen Airport.
Germans are in the first place in the number of tourists
Among the tourists who came to Istanbul in June, the Germans took the first place with 126 thousand 507 people.
Germany was followed by Russia with 117 thousand 169 tourists, Iran with 99 thousand 115 tourists, the USA with 96 thousand 604 tourists, England with 59 thousand 901 tourists, and France with 48 thousand 142 tourists, Iraq with 45 thousand tourists, Kuwait with 40 thousand 57 tourists, Uzbekistan with 36 thousand 290 tourists, Jordan with 33 thousand 417 tourists, Kazakhstan with 31 thousand 953 tourists, Israel with 28 thousand 935 tourists, the Netherlands with 25 thousand 443 tourists, and Italy with 25 thousand 180 tourists.
8.60% of the people who visited Istanbul in June were Germans, 7.97% Russians, 6.74% Iranians, 6.57% Americans, 4.07% British, and 3.37% French.
While tourists from 198 countries came to Istanbul in June, one person from the Federated States of Solomon Islands, North Korea and Micronesia, and two from Palau and Tonga visited the city.
Meanwhile, 1 million 100 thousand 389 tourists came to Istanbul in June 2018, 1 million 361 thousand 302 tourists in June 2019, and 66 thousand 725 tourists in June 2020.
