Turkiye’s machinery exports in the first 5 months of the year reached $11.7 billion, breaking the record for the January-May period.
According to the data of the Machinery Exporters’ Association (MAIB), the exports of the machinery manufacturing industry reached 11.7 billion in the January-May period of this year, when the free zones are included.
In the said period, the average export unit prices per kilogram were above $7, and an increase was achieved on a value basis, although less export was made in terms of quantity.
While the export value per kilogram approached $10 in Germany and Russia, where the sector exports the most, it was $12.3 in the third rank USA.
Machinery exports increased by 12.7% in May compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $2.4 billion.
“We must support our success in Russia with Europe in the second half”
Kutlu Karavelioglu, Chairman of the Machinery Exporters’ Association, made a statement regarding the export figures and developments in the sector, “Most of the increase in the first 5 months of 2023 was due to exports to Russia,” and he said that they are working to support the success achieved in the Russian market in the past period with a new success story to be exhibited in Europe.
Explaining that they had difficulty in following the developments in Europe, especially in the field of sustainability, due to the Russia-Ukraine war, the earthquakes on February 6 and the elections, Karavelioglu said that it was a chance for them that European countries, which have been working on industrial transformation for a long time, could not proceed very quickly due to their bureaucratic and cumbersome structures.
