Istanbul’s exports reached a historical peak

Export sales of companies from Istanbul reached $8 billion 724 million in November with an increase of 41.3% compared to the same period of the previous year, breaking a record on a monthly basis. Companies from Istanbul delivered their products to 218 destinations in the world last month, while the city’s share in Turkey’s exports in November was 40.6%.

According to the information compiled by AA correspondent from the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), Turkey’s exports increased by 33.4% last month compared to the same period of 2020 and reached $21 billion 468 million 461 thousand.

The export sales of companies from Istanbul reached $8 billion 723 million 971 thousand in November with an increase of 41.3% compared to the same period of the previous year, breaking a record on a monthly basis.

According to these results, Istanbul maintained its leadership in Turkey’s exports on a provincial basis by a wide margin.

Kocaeli with $1 billion 462.3 million, Bursa with $1 billion 368.6 million, Izmir with $1 billion 105.5 million and Gaziantep with $904.7 million followed Istanbul.

Companies from Istanbul delivered their products to 218 destinations in the world last month, while the city’s share in Turkey’s exports in November was 40.6%.

In November, companies from Istanbul realized the highest increase in exports on a value basis. In this period, the foreign sales of companies from Istanbul increased by $2.6 billion on a value basis compared to the same period of the previous year.

Corum with $249.3 million, Izmir with $244 million, Kocaeli with $213 million, and Ankara with $196.6 million followed Istanbul.

CLOTHING AND APPAREL LEADING TO THE LEADERSHIP

Among the companies from Istanbul, the ready-made clothing and apparel sector made the most exports in November. Companies operating in the ready-made clothing and apparel industry in Istanbul realized exports worth $1 billion 186 million in November.

This sector was followed by chemicals and products with $1 billion 162 million, jewelery with $999.7 million, steel with $998.4 million and electrical and electronics with $658.6 million.

In November, it was seen that the exports of companies from Istanbul increased in 22 sectors and decreased in 5 sectors compared to the same period of the previous year.

The highest increase in exports was seen in the jewelry sector with $715.9 million. The jewelry industry was followed by steel with $356.2 million, chemicals and products with $295.9 million, ferrous and non-ferrous metals with $260 million, and defense and aerospace industry with $199 million.

LARGEST MARKET IS UNITED KINGDOM

In November, the largest market for companies from Istanbul was the United Kingdom. Exports to the United Kingdom from Istanbul amounted to $805.1 million in November.

After the United Kingdom, exports amounted to $710.4 million to Germany, $457.6 million to the USA, $380.3 million to Italy, and $362 million to Spain.

In the said period, the country with the highest increase in the exports of companies from Istanbul on the basis of value was the United Kingdom with $371.8 million. This country was followed by the USA with $186.5 million, Germany with $121.1 million, Italy with $118.6 million and Spain with $117.9 million.
