Istanbul residents consumed mostly tomatoes and potatoes in 2020

In 2020, 2 million 619 thousand 937 tons of fruit and vegetables entered the Bayrampasa and Atasehir fresh fruit and vegetable markets.

According to the information received by the AA correspondent from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, while 2 million 779 thousand 355 tons of products were brought to Bayrampasa and Atasehir fresh fruit and vegetable markets in 2019, this amount decreased to 2 million 619 thousand 937 tons in 2020.

While there was 1 million 165 thousand 425 tons of fruit input in both marketplaces in 2019, this figure decreased by 79 thousand 451 tons in 2020 and was recorded as 1 million 85 thousand 974 tons.

While 1 million 613 thousand 930 tons of vegetables were entered into both marketplaces in 2019, this figure decreased by 79 thousand 967 tons last year to 1 million 533 thousand 963 tons.

Watermelon took the first place again

Watermelon, apple, tangerine, orange, and lemon were the most brought fruits to the markets in 2019 on a tonnage basis.

This ranking changed in 2020 to watermelon, orange, apple, tangerine, and lemon.

Last year, 145 thousand 394 tons of watermelon, 117 thousand 316 tons of oranges, 106 thousand 396 tons of apples, 79 thousand 651 tons of tangerines, and 73 thousand 87 tons of lemon entered the markets in Istanbul.

Tomatoes and potatoes took first place again this year

Tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and onions were the most brought vegetables to the markets in 2019 on a tonnage basis, the ranking remained the same in 2020.

Last year, 396 tons of 929 tomatoes, 173 thousand 479 tons of potatoes, 148 thousand 128 tons of cucumbers, 128 thousand 734 tons of pepper, and 89 thousand 41 tons of onions were brought to the city.
