In the first 6 months of the export season, a revenue of $262 million 727 thousand was obtained from Malatya apricots with geographical indication registered in the European Union (EU).
Malatya Commodity Exchange Chairman Ramazan Ozcan told Anadolu Agency (AA) that the export season for apricots started on August 1, 2022, and that they left the first 6 months of the season behind with a good figure.
Ozcan stated that the export figures in the first month of the year were also pleasing, and that the export of dried apricots made us smile.
“In January, we exported 7 thousand 436 tons of dried apricots and earned $39 million 117 thousand. Normally, the months of January are stagnant for us, because it coincides with the New Year, there is a recession. In January last year, we had an income of $25 million 986 thousand against 5 thousand 337 tons of exports.
In the 6 months of the export season, we exported 49 thousand 355 thousand tons of dried apricots and generated a revenue of $262 million 727 thousand. We are faced with a table that can generate $460 million in exports this season. We closed the January exports with very good figures. Apricot continues to reach the palates of consumers all over the world. Fairs will be held in Europe, China and Dubai in the coming months. We will continue to promote our product at the fairs, and we will strive to increase exports by finding new markets.”

Reminding that in the first 6 months of the last season, 51 thousand 731 tons of dried apricot exports were provided, $222 million 619 thousand of input was provided, “An increase of $40 million was observed in the export income compared to the same period of the previous year. Compared to the 12% increase in Turkiye’s export revenues, there is a marked increase of more than 15% in apricots. We see that both consumers are happy to sweeten their palates with dried apricots and that there is no stagnation in dried apricot exports. For the first time, we exported over $260 million of dried apricots in the 6-month period.”
