Istanbul and Ankara statement from Turkish Airlines: There may be cancellations or delays due to heavy fog

Turkish Airlines (THY) Press Counselor Yahya Ustun made a statement regarding the dense fog that had its effect in Istanbul and Ankara. Stating that the dense fog affected the operations at Sabiha Gokcen and Ankara Esenboga Airports, Ustun said, “The situation is expected to continue throughout the day and there will be cancellations or delays in our flights.”

Dense fog started to be effective in Istanbul and Ankara from the morning hours. Turkish Airlines (THY) Press Counselor Yahya Ustun made a statement regarding the dense fog in Istanbul and Ankara and stated that operations at Sabiha Gokcen and Ankara Esenboga Airports were affected.

He made the following statements in his statement on his social media account:

“DELAYS MAY BE EXPERIENCED IN FLIGHTS IN ISTANBUL AND ANKARA DUE TO DENSE FOG”

“The dense fog in Istanbul and Ankara is affecting our Sabiha Gokcen and Ankara Esenboga Airport operations. It is expected that the situation will continue throughout the day and there will be cancellations or delays in our flights. We would like to inform you, our esteemed guests.”

The fog, which has been effective since night hours in the Marmara Region, especially in Istanbul, also causes disruptions in air transportation. While the planes had to tour in the air due to fog, 12 planes that could not land at Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport were diverted to Istanbul Airport.

12 AIRCRAFT DIVERTED

In the statement made by IGA, it was said, “Due to the fog that affected the Marmara Region, especially Istanbul, a total of 12 aircraft have diverted to Istanbul Airport since yesterday evening. Divert flights (forwarding) continue and the operation continues uninterruptedly at our airport.”

FLIGHTS CANCELED AT SABIHA GOKCEN AIRPORT

In the statement made by PEGASUS, it was said, “Due to the heavy fog in Istanbul, our flights from and to Sabiha Gokcen cannot be carried out. According to the information received from the meteorology, the weather conditions are expected to improve at noon.”

FLIGHTS HAVE RETURNED TO NORMAL IN SABIHA GOKCEN

Flights returned to normal at Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport, which was closed to air traffic due to the fog that was effective in Istanbul.

The fog, which has continued since last night in the Marmara Region, also negatively affected air transportation in Istanbul. Due to the fog, Istanbul Sabiha Gokven Airport was closed to landings and take-offs as of 08:00.

While some flights to be made at the airport were delayed, 21 planes were diverted to Istanbul Airport and 20 flights were cancelled. THY’s domestic flights until 14.35 have been cancelled. As the fog wore off, 4 planes waiting in line to take off after 11.10 began to take off. Flights at the airport returned to normal as the planes started to land at 11.40 am.
