78 million kilowatt-hours of electricity was produced from garbage in Konya in 2022

Last year, 78 million 11 thousand 490 kilowatt-hours of electricity was obtained in the 5 facilities of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, where electricity is produced from methane gas.

Garbage is converted into electrical energy in Konya Solid Waste Landfill Site, Cihanbeyli, Eregli, Aksehir Solid Waste Landfills and Aslim Solid Waste Site.

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ugur Ibrahim Altay told journalists that they attach great importance to the protection of nature and the use of renewable energy sources with their environmentalist investments.

Stating that they are working to contribute to the city economy as well as protecting the environment, Altay said:

“In this context, our facility, which produces electrical energy from 5 methane gas within our municipality, continues its activities. In addition to the Konya Solid Waste Landfill Site, at our methane gas power generation facilities in Aslim, Aksehir, Eregli and Cihanbeyli, methane gases, which are formed in the solid waste mass and have a global warming potential 21 times more than carbon dioxide, are converted into electrical energy. Thus, both greenhouse gas reduction and energy production are provided. In 2022, we produced 78 million 11 thousand 490 kilowatt-hours of electricity at our facilities. The amount of electricity produced so far has been 617 million 542 thousand 178 kilowatt-hours.”
