In Turkey population of foreigners decreased, their ownership increased

Real Estate Specialist Mustafa Hakan Ozelmacikli said, “The total number of foreign population, which was 1 million 531 thousand 180 in 2019, decreased to 1 million 333 thousand 410 people in 2020. In the same period, the number of foreign ownership increased from 340 thousand 489 to 379 thousand 441.”

According to the results of the Address Based Population Registration System (ADNKS), while the foreign population in our country decreased by 13%, the number of ownership increased by 11% compared to the same period of the previous year. Making evaluations on the subject, Altin Real Estate General Manager Mustafa Hakan Ozelmacikli said, “The total number of foreign population, which was 1 million 531 thousand 180 in 2019, decreased by 13% in 2020 to 1 million 333 thousand 410 people. In the same period, the number of foreign ownership increased from 340 thousand 489 to 379 thousand 441 with an increase of 11%.”

Iraq is in the first place

Stating that the total number of house sales made to foreigners between 2015 and 2020 was 191 thousand 119, Ozelmacikli said, “Considering the number of house sales made to foreigners according to the nationalities of the country, the most sales were made to Iraqi citizens with 33,544 in the last six years. According to the address-based population data for the year 2020, Iraq ranked first with 281 thousand 74 people in the number of foreign population according to the country of citizenship.”

Average household size is decreasing

Stating that the average household size continues to decrease, Ozelmacikli said, “The household size, which was 3.4 people in 2019, decreased to 3.3 people in 2020. When we make an evaluation according to provinces, the province with the highest household size in 2020 was Sirnak with an average of 5.7, followed by Sanliurfa and Hakkari with 5.2 people, Batman with 5.1 people, and Siirt with 4.9 people. The provinces with the lowest average household size were Canakkale with 2.6 and Eskisehir, Tunceli, Balikesir, Giresun, Burdur, Edirne, and Cankiri with an average of 2.7 ”.

Situation in the top 5 metropolitan cities

Stating that there is a decrease in the number of households in many provinces, Ozelmacikli said, “The average household size was 3.26 in Istanbul, 3.02 in Ankara, 2.91 in Izmir, 3.23 in Bursa and 3.01 in Antalya in 2020.”
