Hazelnuts worth $479.9 million were exported from Trabzon in 11 months

In Trabzon, $479 million 942 thousand 676 of income was obtained from hazelnut exports in January-November 2023.

Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association Hazelnut and Hazelnut Products Sector Committee Chairman Mehmet Cirav told the AA correspondent that 75 thousand 743 tons of hazelnuts were exported from the city in 11 months of the year.

Stating that $479 million 942 thousand 676 were earned from the export in question, Cirav stated that hazelnuts found buyers in 58 countries during this period.

Cirav stated that Italy, Germany and Poland were the three countries that exported the most hazelnuts, and that hazelnuts were also sold to Lebanon, North Macedonia, Costa Rica and Bulgaria in this period.

Stating that hazelnut exports did not reach the desired figures this year, Cirav said:

“An element that threatens our hazelnut production and exports is the yield losses caused by global warming. Relevant ministries should now start working by taking precautions, raise the awareness of the producers, and in addition to garden maintenance and renewal, drought-adapted hazelnut species should be urgently developed and their planting should be expanded.”
