Chickpea harvest started in Yozgat

Chickpea harvest has started in Yozgat, which ranks fifth in Turkiye in terms of arable land and second in chickpea production.

In the city, 67 thousand 115 tons of products were obtained on 517 thousand 59 decares in 2022, while this year, 554 thousand 783 decares were planted.

Yozgat Chamber of Agriculture President Ismail Acikgoz told reporters that the chickpea harvest has started after barley and wheat.

Indicating that chickpea disease has been diagnosed due to heavy rains, Acikgoz said, “The yield decreased by 50% as the last heat dried the plant. We get 100 kilograms from where we expect 200 kilograms per decare. The yield is low not only in Yozgat but also in the Central Anatolia Region.”

Acikgoz stated that although the yield is low, the prices are good compared to 2022, “While it was sold between ₺15-₺17 per kilogram last year, it varies between ₺22 and ₺25 this year.”
