Turkiye earned approximately $32 million from honey exports last year.

According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent from the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association (DKIB) data, Turkiye, which ranks second after China in world honey production and ninth in exports, exported 9 thousand 383 tons of honey in 2023.

A profit of $31 million 907 thousand 291 was made from the foreign sales in question. The USA ranked first in exports to 59 countries with $12 million 461 thousand 373. This country was followed by Germany with $4 million 881 thousand 378 and Israel with $3 million 683 thousand 977.

Last year, unlike 2022, honey was also sold to Albania, Croatia, Sweden, People’s Republic of China, Kenya, Djibouti, Malta, South Korea, Syria, Uzbekistan and Cameroon.

$2 million 770 thousand 122 of Turkiye’s honey export was carried out by companies operating in the Eastern Black Sea region.

“We believe that honey exports will increase exponentially”

DKIB Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors Ahmet Hamdi Gurdogan told the AA correspondent that honey is an important export product for the country and the region.

Emphasizing that he has high expectations from honey exports, Gurdogan said, “If the climatic conditions are suitable in 2024, our honey exports will reach higher levels. We believe that honey exports will increase exponentially.”

Gurdogan pointed out that they believe that the companies’ tendency to develop branded products, especially in recent years, will make a significant contribution to honey exports reaching higher levels, and said:

“The fact that businesses that are not registered with the European Union system will not be allowed to export in 2024 will also discipline our honey exports significantly. We believe that this will contribute to the increase and protection of the brand value of Turkish honey.”
