Turkiye: Energy import bill decreased by 23.4%

The amount paid by Turkey for energy imports decreased by 23.4% in May compared to the same month of the previous year and decreased to $5 billion 320 million 345 thousand.

According to the temporary foreign trade statistics created by the Turkish Statistical Institute and the Ministry of Commerce, Turkiye’s total imports increased by 15.5% in May compared to the same month of the previous year and reached $34 billion 186 million.

$5 billion 320 million 345 thousand of this amount consisted of “mineral fuels, mineral oils and products obtained from their distillation, bituminous materials, mineral waxes”, which is summarized as energy imports.

In May last year, this figure was recorded as $6 billion 942 million 500 thousand. Thus, the amount of energy imports decreased by 23.4% on an annual basis.

On the other hand, crude oil imports decreased by 17.1% in May compared to the same month of the previous year and decreased to 2 million 462 thousand 849 tons.
