Global steel output down to 162.7M tons in April

World’s top steel producer China sees 5.2% year-on-year fall last month

Global crude steel output fell 5.1% year-on-year to 162.7 million tons in April, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) on Tuesday.

The world’s number one steel producer China saw a 5.2% annual decline in production, reaching 92.8 million tons.

Turkiye, the world’s seventh-largest crude steel producer, produced 3.4 million tons, up 1.6%. Brazil produced 2.9 million tons, down 4%. Iran is estimated to have produced 2.2 million tons, down 20.7%.


Other major steel producing countries posted mixed figures as India produced 10.1 million tons (up 6.2%), Japan 7.5 million tons (down 4.4%) and the US 6.9 million tons (down 3.9%).

Russia is estimated to have produced 6.4 million tons of crude steel,a slight rise of 0.6%.

The World Steel Association is a prominent industry group, with its members representing around 85% of global steel production with more than 160 steel producers.
