Speaking at the meeting, Getir Co-Founder Tuncay Tutek stated that they wrote the story from the end to the end when they were establishing Getir and said, “Our goal has been to become a global brand since the first day we were founded. With the valuation we reached in the last investment round, we became the first Decacorn in the fast grocery delivery sector in Europe.”

Tutek underlined that Getir has inspired the Turkish entrepreneurship ecosystem with the investments it has received, and continued as follows:

“The investment story of Getir, which started with a $38 million investment by a group of investors led by Michael Moritz, an important investor in Silicon Valley in January 2020, continued with a new investment of $128 million in the second investment round in January 2021. Reaching a valuation of $2.6 billion in the third investment round completed in March last year, Getir became the Unicorn of Turkey. Right after, Getir reached a valuation of over $7.5 billion after its fourth investment round in June 2021. Having completed its last investment round last month with an investment of $768 million, Getir reached a valuation of $11.8 billion.”

OPERATING IN 3 CONTINENTS, 9 COUNTRIES

Stating that Getir has achieved rapid growth abroad with the investments it has received, Tutek noted that as of today, they have been serving users in 3 continents and 9 countries with nearly 40 million downloads.

Tutek reminded that they currently serve in 81 provinces in Turkey with more than 760 Getir, GetirMore and GetirWater and that they took the first step abroad with London at the beginning of 2021, while increasing the number of cities in England on the one hand, and Continental Europe on the other. He informed that they continue to grow.

Noting that Getir is taking firm steps towards its goal of becoming a global brand, Tutek said, “We took the leadership seat in the UK market, which we entered with London in January last year. At the end of last November, we strengthened our position in the European market by purchasing the entire Weezy operating company in the UK. Our first stop in Continental Europe was Amsterdam in the Netherlands in April 2021. After the Netherlands, we expanded to Germany and France. We strengthened our position in the region by purchasing Blok, which operates in the Southern European market, in July last year. After this purchase, we started to serve in Barcelona and Madrid in Spain and Milan in Italy. Later, we added Lisbon in Portugal to our service network. Getir’s global journey reached the United States in November 2021. We entered the US market from Chicago, then we started to serve in New York and Boston. We are currently serving in 56 cities abroad in total.”

Tutek mentioned that they started operating in 8 countries abroad in the last year and said, “This year, we will focus on growth in the countries we are in. We will expand our operational network and increase the number of cities in these countries. We will continue our efforts to provide the best user experience in the fast delivery sector by strengthening our position in the coming period.”

“15 THOUSAND APPLICATIONS MONTHLY IN GLOBAL”

Tuncay Tutek, the Founding Partner of Getir, stated that while they were growing both in Turkey and abroad, Getir had 90 employees from different nationalities and stated that they strengthened their global company position with employees from many different countries, from Norway to Australia, from Belarus to Uganda.

Tutek said that they continue to expand their teams rapidly in the country and abroad, “We are a team of over 30 thousand together with our field employees affiliated to our dealers in Turkey and abroad. We paved the way for reverse brain drain. Globally, 15 thousand job applications are received per month. Approximately 1-2 thousand people join us among 180 thousand CVs per year. It also makes us proud that there are many people who want to work with us abroad. We see that the name Getir is accepted by every segment of society in the countries we are in. Investors also invest in our manpower, experience and technology, namely software. We are making the biggest investment in the software team and data team.”

“WE ALWAYS PRIORITIZE COURIER SAFETY”

Tutek underlined that they have implemented many works for the couriers affiliated to the dealers, which is one of the biggest assets of Getir, and continued as follows:

“We always put courier safety first. Private health insurance, which is valid in many private hospitals and pharmacies across Turkey, is started as of the day our courier friends start working at Getir. We select all of our safety equipment such as helmets, coats and gloves from Class A equipment that exceeds the required criteria. We provide safe driving training to couriers in order to ensure the safety of both couriers and everyone who crosses the road from vehicle to pedestrian. In line with our responsibility towards society and social life, we monitor driving performances moment by moment with the application installed on the couriers’ devices. We also have a Field Security Department that manages all these processes. There are many rules for the safety of the couriers working under the Getir dealers. With all these measures, we continue our efforts to ensure the safety of couriers and the public, as well as to ensure that courier service is accepted as a real, permanent and professional profession.”

Tutek stated that while they serve only with engines in the Getir service, deliveries are made with both vehicles and engines at GetirMore, and noted that there are kilogram and volume limits for deliveries with motorcycles, and that the system asks the user to reduce the order automatically if an order is created with a high weight or volume.

Stating that they do not deliver carboys with two-wheeled vehicles due to their heavy, bulky and easily destabilizing structure, Tutek informed that 19-liter North Water carboys are delivered with four and three-wheeled vehicles.

Tutek said that in unsuitable weather conditions, especially if there is a risky situation regardless of snow, heavy rain or wind, the system is stopped temporarily, relying on the understanding of the users.

At the meeting, it was stated that buttermilk is one of the most sold products in England, the country where Getir is currently the most common abroad. The best-selling products in the UK after ayran are as follows: Crackers, Ulker Chocolate Wafer, sesame stick crackers, Biskrem, Tadim sunflower seeds, Halley Mini, baklava and frozen simit.
