Turkiye: Foreign trade indices for June announced

The export unit value index decreased by 1.6% and the import unit value index decreased by 15.6% on an annual basis in June.

Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced foreign trade indices for June.

Accordingly, the export unit value index decreased by 1.6% in June compared to the same month of the previous year. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the index increased by 3.6% in food, beverages and tobacco, by 1.8% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages, tobacco), while it decreased by 13.6% in raw materials (excluding fuel) and 39.8% in fuels.

In the second quarter of this year, the export unit value index decreased by 0.7% compared to the second quarter of the previous year.

The export quantity index decreased by 9.2% in June compared to the same month of the previous year. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the index decreased by 11.4% in food, beverages and tobacco, by 18.9% in raw materials (excluding fuel), by 11.4% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco), and increased by 22.3% in fuels.

The index in question decreased by 5.1% in the second quarter of the year compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

The import unit value index decreased by 15.6% in June compared to the same month of the previous year. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the index decreased by 11.3% in food, beverages and tobacco, by 27.6% in raw materials (excluding fuel), by 39.2% in fuels and by 7.3% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco).

The index in question decreased by 14.7% in the second quarter of the year compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

The import quantity index depreciated by 2.2% in June compared to the same month of the previous year. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the index increased by 18.2% in food, beverages and tobacco, by 0.6% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages, tobacco), and decreased by 19.8% in raw materials (excluding fuel) and 11.9% in fuels.

This index increased by 14.2% in the second quarter of the year compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

Seasonally and calendar-adjusted data

According to the seasonally and calendar-adjusted series, the export quantity index, which was 143.4 in May, increased by 10.6% to 158.7 in June. According to the calendar-adjusted series, the export quantity index, which was 152.4 in June 2022, increased by 4.4% and reached 159.1 in June 2023.

According to the seasonally and calendar-adjusted series, the import quantity index, which was 132.1 in May, decreased by 5.2% and became 125.3 in June of this year. According to the calendar adjusted series, the import quantity index, which was 112.3 in June last year, increased by 9.8% and reached 123.3 in the same month of this year.

The terms of trade, which was calculated by dividing the export unit value index by the import unit value index and obtained as 76.5 in June 2022, increased by 12.8 points to 89.3 in June this year.

The terms of trade were recorded as 88.1 in the second quarter of this year, with an increase of 12.4 points compared to the same period of the previous year.
