Akbal stated that Turkey’s house sales to foreigners are getting better every year and starting to surpass rival countries in Europe, adding that Istanbul leads the sales to foreigners.

Akbal stated that the number of provinces where housing sales to foreigners increased every year, and that the number of countries whose citizens bought houses in Turkey exceeded 180.

Akbal stated that foreigners paid an average of $151 thousand per house they bought in Turkey in 2020 and that the total figure reached $6.2 billion.

“Investors just did not pay for the house. In addition to this, it has allocated a serious amount for household goods. Foreigners who bought housing in Turkey spent an average of ₺150 thousand on household goods such as interior design, furniture, white goods and small household appliances. 70% of foreigners live in the house they bought. Therefore, we think that 28.6 thousand investors lived in the house they bought last year. According to the data from our research, foreigners who prefer to live in the house they bought in 2020 spent ₺4.3 billion only for the goods.”

It exceeded ₺6 billion with life and other expenses

Faruk Akbal stated that during this period, foreigners who buy housing stay in Turkey for an average of 2.5 months annually, allocating significant resources for needs such as life, travel, food and social activities, apart from household goods, “We think that there is an expenditure close to ₺2 billion here, so the total figure together with life and other expenses exceeds ₺6 billion.”

Akbal stated that the income per tourist in Turkey is less than $700, but the expense amount of foreigners who buy housing is much higher. He said that in this field, which contributed significantly to the economy, more publicity should be made and the cooperation of sector stakeholders should increase.

Calling for continued intensive online promotion and marketing activities that started during the epidemic process, Akbal said, “Turkey experienced less loss in housing sales thanks to the success it achieved in combating the epidemic. Although we cannot reach the numbers we want in the first 2 months, we believe that the numbers will increase rapidly in the coming months.”
