Tea exports of $13.2 million were made from Turkey to 115 countries in 9 months

Turkey earned $13 million 212 thousand from tea exports to 115 countries in the January-September period of 2021.

Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKIB) Vice President Ahmet Hamdi Gurdogan stated in his written statement that 3,247 tons of tea was exported in the 9-month period of this year.

Stating that $13 million 212 thousand 948 were obtained from tea exports, Gurdogan stated that the most foreign sales were made to Belgium, Germany, the USA, the Netherlands and the TRNC.

Gurdogan said, “Compared to the same period of the previous year, an increase of 10% on amount and 9% on value basis has been achieved. Since more than 5 million Turkish population living in European Union countries prefer Turkish tea, the most exports are made to these countries.”

Noting that the number of countries in exports reaching 115 is an important development, Gurdogan said:

“In parallel with the increase in country diversity, the exported amount needs to reach higher figures. Our tea exports will be able to reach higher levels with the production of products suitable for the taste and consumer preferences of each country and the development of innovative products. Companies operating in the sector can develop innovative products by cooperating with universities in our region. Although many countries are not tea producers, they can have a say in the world markets with the innovative products they produce by processing the imported teas.”
