Seaborne Russian oil shipments to Turkiye is at a record level

Russian oil companies continue to increase seaborne oil shipments to Turkiye, especially to Baltic ports.

According to the news, in December, Turkiye broke a new record in Russian oil imports with 444 thousand barrels per day, thanks to the increase in supply to the Star refinery in Turkiye, owned by Azerbaijani SOCAR.

According to the news of Kommersant, one of Russia’s leading newspapers, 70% of this figure was shipped to Aliaga Port. This amount was approximately 13% of Russia’s total maritime exports in December. 76% of the oil that Russia sold abroad by sea went to India and China.

According to global oil data center Kpler, 85% of the oil shipped to Turkiye in December came via tankers from Russia’s Baltic ports of Primorsk and Ust-Luga, not from the nearby port of Novorossiysk.

Meanwhile, it was emphasized that supplies to Turkiye have become increasingly attractive after the problems in the Red Sea due to Houthis’ attacks on ships. “Due to problems with Indian buyers, Turkiye seems to have become the most attractive market for Russian oil.”

Turkiye also became the largest importer of Russian diesel fuel last year.
