Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli stated that the export of aquaculture (fisheries) reached $1 billion 63 million in 2020 and said, “We have ranked first among EU countries in aquaculture.” Stating that the fisheries production was 785 thousand tons in 2020 thanks to the decisions they took to protect fisheries resources, the inspections they made and the incentives they gave to increase production, Pakdemirli emphasized that 364,000 tons of this was achieved through hunting and 421 thousand tons through aquaculture. Pakdemirli stated that the import of fishery products is $157 million and that Turkey is a net exporter country in foreign trade of fisheries products.
