Exports of $687 million in 8 months from Aegean grain producers

Exports of the Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association in the 8-month period of this year increased by 64% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $687 million.

Muhammet Ozturk, Chairman of the Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association, stated that the sector has shown a stable success since the first month of 2022.

Emphasizing that they have witnessed an export increase of up to 200% in the last period, Ozturk said:

“The exports of cereals, pulses and oilseeds from our region in the first 8 months of 2022 increased by 64% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $687 million. In the first quarter, we gave the signals that we would exceed $1 billion. In the last one-year period from September 25, 2021 to September 24, 2022, our exports increased by 70% and reached $981 million. We continue to break records in September as well, and we succeeded in increasing our exports by 115% in the 20-day period. Our industry has carried its exports to $10.8 billion throughout Turkiye in the last one-year period. The share of our sector in the export of agricultural products increased to 43%. With the ‘Grain Corridor Agreement’, Turkiye’s facilitating role was appreciated all over the world. We hope to see the positive impact of this on our Turkish cereals, pulses and oilseeds sector in the coming period.”

Ozturk emphasized that they have reached 146 countries and regions, and that the export of vegetable oil, which constitutes 57% of the Aegean’s exports of cereals, pulses and oilseeds, has reached $397 million with an increase of 69%.

Target is the Far East market

Expressing that in the new era in which the world will be shaped by food technologies, Turkiyehas the power to process, package and brand its agricultural products to the added value it deserves, Ozturk said, “We introduced Turkish flavors in the USA as part of the TURQUALITY Project. We enabled Turkish cuisine to be included in the curriculum of Las Vegas University for 5 years. We aim to increase the exports of Turkish food products to the USA, one of the important target markets of our sector, exponentially. In addition, we aim to be more recognized in the Far East market with our trainings that will raise the awareness of our members on e-commerce in the near future and our digital marketing strategies that we have developed specifically for China.”
