Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank shared a post about this on his Twitter account.

Noting that they add value to the value of pistachios, Varank said, “We brought the first licensed warehouse of our country to Gaziantep. With our project, which is an example for regional development, pistachios will be bought and sold electronically.”

In the written statement made by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, it was pointed out that Pistachio, which makes a difference to its competitors in the world with its taste, has reached its licensed warehouse, It has been reported that with Turkey’s first and most modern licensed warehouse with a capacity of 10 thousand tons, “green gold” will both extend its life and be sold at its value.

Gaziantep Commodity Exchange Pistachio Licensed Warehouse Project is carried out by Gaziantep Commodity Exchange with the help of Ipekyolu Development Agency (IKA) within the scope of the Ministry of Industry and Technology’s Attraction Centers Support Program (CMDP). It was stated that ₺10 million of the ₺14 million project was realized with the financing of IKA.

In the statement, it was noted that the producers will have the opportunity to have a healthy and insured warehouse with the licensed warehouse and product specialty exchange built under the CMDP, and it was emphasized that with the project, pistachios will be bought and sold via electronic product certificates instead of physical circulation, thus facilitating the trade of the product.

The bread and butter of 200 thousand people

Pointing out that the Pistachio Licensed Warehouse, which was opened by the Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, is a source of bread for 200 thousand people, the following evaluation was made:

“Thanks to Turkey’s most modern and largest licensed warehousing facility, price fluctuations in the free market will also be prevented. Thanks to the licensed warehouse, the farmer will no longer have to sell their product cheaply. Farmers will be able to show all kinds of trades by showing their electronic product bills as collateral.”

An Electronic Product Certificate will be created for the product that meets the quality criteria

In the statement, information on how the process related to product trade will work was shared.

Accordingly, pistachio producers will bring their products to the licensed warehouse. The product will be subjected to preliminary examination by the expert. After the preliminary approval is given, a homogeneous sample will be taken from the product for classification.

The sample taken will be analyzed and the quality of the product will be determined and classified. An Electronic Product Certificate (ELUS) will be created for the product that meets the quality criteria.

If the producer wishes, they will be able to sell the said stock on the Product Specialization Exchange or withdraw his product from the licensed warehouse at any time.

Farmers will be able to quickly market their products digitally

IKA Secretary General Burhan Akyilmaz, whose views were given in the statement, emphasized that the farmers had problems while storing their pistachios before the facility was established, “They were either keeping them in their homes or in their warehouses under their houses. This also had risks.”

Noting that the producers will no longer have to go to the brokers and have to worry about marketing their products, Akyilmaz stated that the farmers will be able to sell and market their products quickly in the digital environment via electronic bills.

Emphasizing that the farmers will benefit from the incentives and withholding tax discounts provided by licensed warehousing, Akyilmaz stated that the farmers will be able to sell their products instantly via electronic bills with a click from where they live.

“We have to sell it cheaply”

Pistachio producer Mustafa Kaya also stated that they had to sell the product on the tree because there was a storage problem, and the price dropped a lot due to the early harvest.

Stating that they will collect the product two months later, Kaya said, “We are thinking about where to put our product. We either have to give it early, at a cheap price, or we have to deliver it to the brokers. If the warehouse problem disappears, the farmer will win.”

Another producer, Mehmet Hanefi Yilmaz, noted that once the state allocates a storage place for pistachios, the citizens will put their goods in a safe place and said, “We go to the brokers, it looks like they have made an agreement with the big trader and they make it look like someone else bought it. They take commission and actually buy the product themselves. That’s why we don’t have a chance to insist on the price in any way.”

Sait Duymus, one of the producers, stated that they started to crack the pistachios in August and it took us a month, and drew attention to the fact that the pistachios darkened when left without air in a closed environment, so it should be in a place to get air.

Stating that the warehouse is a good solution, Duymus said, “Thanks to Turkey’s guarantee, you can neither fear the thief nor say that my goods went bad. It stays there under guarantee. You can sell it when you need it. You don’t need to sell it cheaply either.”
