INTERNATIONAL IZMIR GRACEFULLY AGING FAIR AND CONGRESS

The increasing rate of aging, the speed of aging and longevity in the world and in Turkey concerns the local administrations which are among of the most important institutions regulating social life. The elderly population (65 and over) is 6 million 495 thousand 239 in 2015 based on data received from Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The proportion of the elderly population within the total population has increased from 8% in 2014 to 8.2% in 2015. Turkey ranks at 66th place among the 167 countries with the highest elderly population.

Increasing the quality of life of our aging citizens, together with their health standards and going through an active aging process is very significant for us in the context of local governments.

As a local government, we attach special importance to scientific studies in order to improve the quality of service for our citizens who are living in an evolving and transforming society structure.

In line with this objective, the International Izmir Gracefully Aging Fair and Congress, participated by scientists, service buyers, interested parties of service providers, service providers, decision-makers, non-governmental organizations and other actors from all around the world was organized. Gracefully Aging Fair and Congress is the first event in our country where both elderly people and their family relatives meet the service providers for vulnerable elderly people in academic and implementation contexts.

With the International Izmir Gracefully Aging Fair and Congress, the purpose is to meet and introduce our elderly citizens and family members with their service providers and the interested parties for the academic and practical purposes and to improve the environment of exchange of ideas and cooperation.
