Quota increased in tomato exports to Russia

Aegean Exporters’ Unions Deputy Coordinator Chairman Hayrettin Ucak stated that the quota for tomato exports to Russia was increased from 350 thousand tons to 500 thousand tons, and they expect tomato exports to Russia to recover after this decision.

Ucak, who also serves as the chairman of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, said in a statement that the quota for tomato exports to Russia was increased from 350 thousand tons to 500 thousand tons after the last meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

Noting that a total of $377 million of fresh tomato exports were made last year, Ucak stated that the 150 thousand-ton increase in quota strongly paved the way for tomato exports to Russia.

Stating that Turkiye has been the leading country in tomato exports in Russia for many years, and that they have lost power in this market due to quota problems in recent years, Ucak gave the following statements in his statement:

“Our fresh tomato exports to Russia, which was $68 million in 2021, decreased to $33 million in 2022. After the last decision, we expect our tomato exports to Russia to recover again and this country to become the leader in exports again. We anticipate that total exports will reach $500 million by the end of 2023. We would like to thank our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, for the decision that paved the way for the sector. We wish this decision good luck to our producers and exporters.”
