Antalya Governor Ersin Yazici announced that as of September 15, in the post-coronavirus period, the total number of tourists coming to the city by air from the beginning of the year to date has exceeded 10 million. In Antalya, one of the world’s most important tourism cities, the number of tourists remained below 10 million each year due to the coronavirus epidemic in 2020 and 2021. As of September 15 this year, after two years, it has again exceeded the 10 million threshold.

Antalya Governor Ersin Yazici announced this new record in the tourism sector of the post-coronavirus period for Antalya tourism to DHA. The number of tourists, which was 9 million 997 thousand 878 people on September 14, reached 10 million 60 thousand 739 people with the arrivals on September 15. Compared to the same period of the previous year, 6 million 151 thousand tourists visited, an increase of 64% was recorded. Between 1 and 15 September, 1 million 23 thousand 861 foreign tourists came, with an increase of 18 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

THE YEAR-END TARGET IS 13 MILLION

Governor Ersin Yazici, who stated that the total number of tourists arriving in Antalya by airway has exceeded 10 million as of Thursday, September 15, after the New Year, said, “We are happy, we are satisfied. Last year, the total was around 9 million 60 thousand, now we have exceeded 10 million on September 15. Hopefully, when we complete the year, we expect a number of 12-13 million. I guess we can probably find 13 million. Because the information I received from the sector, we continue almost completely until the end of October. Afterwards, with the effect of changing weather conditions, the weather will probably continue to be hot until the end of November, I guess we will approach 13 million even if we do not catch it.”

RECORD INCREASE FROM GERMANY

Explaining this year’s tourist portfolio, Governor Yazici said, “There has been a serious change in our guests due to the war between Russia and Ukraine. That is, we have no guests from Ukraine this year. While the share of our Russian guests in the total was around 38- 41% in the last 5 years, this year it has decreased to 20%. Germany took the lead from the Russians and now Germany is in the first place. They are slightly ahead of Russia. But there is a 172% increase in the number of German tourists compared to last year. The British are third, followed by Poland, the Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Romania, Israel, Czechia and Denmark, in other words Northern European countries, there is a very serious increase compared to last year and previous years. While the share of Ukraine and Russia in the total guests was 55% last year, only 20% of them are Russians this year, and the rest are predominantly from other European countries.”

WINTER PERIOD EXPECTATION

Stating that everything is going well in Antalya tourism, Governor Yazıcı continued his words as follows:

“The vitality, beauty and fullness of tourism have reflected positively on all sectors, directly and indirectly. We are all happy, I hope we will close the year by approaching 13 million. We also care about alternative tourism types such as sports, health and congress. We will continue to progress in health tourism, especially dental. We consider that we will catch up with our old days in sports, especially football. There are over 200 fields, 140 of which are in hotels. The effect of the pandemic is no more, we have high expectations from Europe in the January-March period. Our private sector and hoteliers, especially bicycle tourism, undertake this task. We will continue to support health and sports tourism in every way in the season from December to May. In congress tourism, the numbers were good last year, and the expectations of the sector are very positive this year as well.”

NIGHTLY INCOME IS $83

Governor Yazıcı stated that with the increase in the number of tourists, there was a good development and a serious increase in income. According to a calculation made around the world for 10-day package tours, he continued as follows;

“When we look at the data this year, there is a very pleasing situation. We are currently at $ 830. I have an estimation that this is also the forecast of tourism professionals, even if we do not catch 2019 in terms of numbers this year, we will approach there in terms of turnover and dollars. It’s about 30% increase in earnings. Our Minister of Culture and Tourism also stated that we have increased it from $63-64 to $83-84 per night. This is a happy situation for our country. Expectations for 2023 are also very high in the sector, and we think that we will spend the winter in full. We offer quality service, we have achieved ‘safe tourism’, we are reaping the benefits. We are one of the rare countries that achieved safe tourism during the two-year Covid-19 period, and in this sense, I congratulate and congratulate the entire tourism industry.”

NUMBER OF TOURISTS BY COUNTRY

Since the number of tourists by nationality is made at the end of each month, the distribution of tourists according to the countries they come from, according to the data between January 1st and August 31st, is as follows:

“Germany has a 20.83% share in the total number of tourists with 1 million 797 thousand people, with an increase of 172%. Russia has 1 million 795 thousand people, with a decrease of 4.7%, and its share is 20.81%. England has a 27% increase and a 9.3% share with 805 thousand people. Poland with 540 thousand people, 100% increase and 6.2% share. The Netherlands has 327 thousand people, an increase of 376% and a share of 3.8%.
