Eastern Black Sea’s aquaculture exports increased by 40%

Fisheries exports from the Eastern Black Sea Region in the first 8 months of the year increased by 40% and reached $78 million 466 thousand 238.

In a written statement made by the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKİB), it was stated that fishery products were exported to 19 countries in 8 months of the year from the region.

Emphasizing that the region’s exports reached $78 million 466 thousand 238 with an increase of 40% compared to the same period of the previous year, it was stated that Trabzon’s aquaculture exports increased by 94% to $45 million 737 thousand 402.

In the statement, it was stated that the influence of Far East countries was felt in Trabzon’s aquaculture exports, and it was noted that there was a 135% increase in exports to Far East countries, led by Vietnam, Japan and the People’s Republic of China, compared to the same period of the previous year.

“Important progress has been made in terms of market diversification”

Ahmet Hamdi Gurdogan, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of DKİB, whose evaluations are included in the statement, stated that the sector has made significant progress in terms of market diversification every year.

Noting that Turkiye ranks 28th in the world’s aquaculture exports with approximately $1.4 billion, Gurdogan stated that strategic studies should be carried out in order to be among the top 10 countries.

Gürdoğan argued that attempts have been made to increase Turkish salmon farming, which makes a significant contribution to the country’s and Eastern Black Sea exports, but that exporters who want to invest face major problems.

Referring to the problems experienced by exporters, Gurdogan demanded that the producers and exporters be paved by urgently increasing the capacity in cage farming and simplifying the tedious investment and licensing processes.

Stating that it is essential to implement a clustering model similar to Norway, Gurdogan said, “It is of great importance to establish a fishery products organized industrial zone in the old shipyard area of Surmene Camburnu, where fish processing and cold storage are located. Necessary negotiations with the ministries are ongoing for this purpose.”
