Domestic and national online meeting software from Teknopark

Teknopark Istanbul Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, one of the R&D schools, rolled up its sleeves to develop online meeting software. Stating that it is important to raise the awareness of cyber security in the whole society, Istanbul Provincial Director of National Education Levent Yazici said, “Turkey’s first high school that implements a cyber security program has been opened. One of the projects implemented by our school, online meeting software is very important for our country and our education system.”

Teknopark Istanbul Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, which was opened last year after the necessary infrastructure preparations were completed, rolled up its sleeves to develop online meeting software. The installation and management of the program, which is one of the greatest needs during the global epidemic process, will be easy. The program will provide secure, high-quality video and audio calls. It will also have a feature that can be used in distance education activities, in meetings such as symposiums and conferences.

WILL CONTRIBUTE TO NATIONAL SECURITY

The project, which was developed to produce a web-based software that will meet the needs of students to be able to hold live lectures/meetings on an online platform, will be widely used after being put into practice and tested in Pendik. With the project, which aims to contribute to national security, the records of all meetings held at schools will be kept on their own servers and will be secured with special security measures. Thanks to the software that will emerge at the end of the project, which will be completed with domestic resources, overpayments to foreign-sourced programs will be prevented. Scientifically, this project, which will be implemented together with the students, will make a significant contribution to their development in the field of cyber security.

CYBER SECURITY AWARENESS SHOULD BE DEVELOPED

Levent Yazici, Istanbul Provincial Director of National Education, who made a statement to Sabah about the project, emphasized the need for well-trained manpower in the field of cyber security. Drawing attention to the importance of cooperation with the sector in line with the 2023 Education Vision, Yazici said, “We have mobilized the highest level of cooperation and coordination in vocational and technical education in order to identify the needs and meet them with innovative methods. With cyber wars coming to the fore, we are all experiencing a period in which data security, financial resource security and in general information and personal data in every field are very important. Developing the awareness of cyber security in the whole society is a prominent understanding.”

TURKEY’S FIRST ‘CYBER SECURITY PROGRAM’ APPLIED HIGH SCHOOL

Noting that cyber security is also directly related to the realization of certain projects and the making of some productions, Yazici said, “Teknopark Istanbul Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School is important in terms of increasing the number of human resources in the field of cyber security and improving their qualifications. Our efforts to create a cyber security area within vocational high schools became concrete last year. Thus, Turkey’s first high school that implements a cyber security program, which started to contribute to the development of the standards of the cyber security ecosystem, was opened. Online meeting software, one of the projects implemented by our school, is very important for our country and our education system. With the software, participants can join the meeting by clicking on the meeting invitation via the browser and entering the meeting password. Audio and video sharing can be done during the meeting. Participants are also given the opportunity to share their own screens. I would like to thank my colleagues, teachers, students and all our stakeholders who put great effort into the realization of the software called TOY.”

WE’RE VERY SENSITIVE ABOUT DATA SECURITY

Teknopark Istanbul Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School principal Turan Cinkilic made a special statement to SABAH, stating that the school was the first vocational-technical high school in Turkey to receive students with the highest score and the first high school opened within the teknopark, and continued as follows: “We prepared our TOY project together with our assistant principal and preparatory students and presented it to our provincial directorate of national education. We had the chance to develop our project with their support. While we were developing this project, our aim has always been this: We use the software of a foreign company that we do not know, and all the lessons we do are kept on their servers. That’s why we said, let’s write our own software, we can do it. We are very sensitive about locality, nationality and data security. We presented our project to the R&D Center of the Ministry of National Education. And we specified the budget we needed. We prepared our project with the funds received within the scope of this center. We are currently using our TOY program at our school with ease. Our goal is to use the program we have developed all over Turkey. This school is to transform children into experts in the field of cyber security, and at the same time to transfer these children to engineering programs. We have structured our framework education so that all our students can be placed in programs such as computer and software engineering.”

STUDENTS LEARN SERVER CONFIGURATION IN PREP CLASS

Cinkilic explained why a high school was established in the teknopark with the following words: “There are many companies working on cyber security, which are included in the cyber security cluster of the defense industry. We wanted to bring students and the industry together, this was the most suitable location for this meeting. Our Provincial Director, Mr. Levent Yazici, came and met with the teknopark officials. He stated that we wanted to open a school here. Thankfully, teknopark officials also gave a very positive response and we opened our school with the support of our Provincial Directorate of National Education and Teknopark officials. Although they are still in the preparatory class, our students took part in our TOY project. Our students learned how to configure servers. They expressed their happiness every day because they were involved in this domestic and national project that would cost our country. First of all, I would like to thank our Minister of National Education Mahmut Ozer, our Provincial Director of National Education Levent Yazici, and Teknopark Chairman of the Board Metin Yerebakan.”
