DHMI: With the opening of Istanbul Airport, €32.4 billion were brought to the aviation industry

General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) stated that with the opening of Istanbul Airport, €32 billion 399 million in total were brought into the aviation sector.

In the statement on DHMI’s website, it was stated that the news made by quoting the words of IYI Party Samsun Deputy Erhan Usta is untrue. It was recalled that in return for the investment cost of $397 million 793 thousand 500, including the additional facilities, of the Ataturk Airport International Terminal Building and Multi-Storey Car Park project, which was tendered on May 16, 1997, with an annual capacity of 20 million passengers, it was operated by TAV Investment, Construction and Operation Inc. for a period of 4 years, 10 months and 15 days and transferred to the organization on July 2, 2005.

In the statement that draws attention to the fact that there is no proposal made to the High Planning Council to extend the current operating period, which is 3 years, 8 months and 20 days, to 20 years in return for a cost of $500 million, within the framework of the tender, the International Terminal Building and the Multi-storey Car Park, the Domestic Terminal Building and the General Aviation Terminal, which were built and operated with the build-operate-transfer model at Ataturk Airport, as of July 3, 2005, it has been reported that the operating rights have been transferred to TAV Istanbul Terminal Isletmeciligi INC by lease for a period of 15.5 years for $3 million 740 thousand including VAT.

In the statement, the operating period of the Domestic and International Terminal Building, with an annual capacity of 45 million passengers, was closed to commercial passenger transportation when Istanbul Airport started operating at full capacity on April 7, 2019, for this reason, it was reminded that the lease agreement of Ataturk Airport was terminated to be valid from this date, and the following was noted:

“With the opening of Istanbul Airport, a total of €32 billion 399 million has been brought to our aviation sector, with an investment cost of €10 billion 247 million and a €22 billion 152 million + VAT rental fee to be paid to the Administration during the operation. Thus, by increasing the annual rent to €1 billion 45 million in addition to the concession and investment cost given at Ataturk Airport as $165 million 55 thousand 383 per year, the profit of our state has increased approximately 7 times in the rent alone.”
