Approximately 1.2 million houses were sold in Turkiye in 2023

Housing sales in Turkiye decreased by 17.5% in 2023 compared to the previous year, falling to 1 million 225 thousand 926. In housing sales, Istanbul ranked first with 198 thousand 739 sales and a share of 16.2%.

Turkish Statistical Institute announced housing sales statistics for December last year and 2023.

Accordingly, the number of house sales decreased by 17.5% in 2023 compared to the previous year, falling to 1 million 225 thousand 926.

In the January-December 2023 period, mortgaged house sales decreased by 36.6% on an annual basis to 177 thousand 748, and other sales types decreased by 13% to 1 million 48 thousand 178. In 2023, the share of mortgage sales was 14.5% and the share of other sales was 85.5%.

During this period, the number of houses sold for the first time decreased by 17.5% to 379 thousand 542. Second-hand house sales were recorded as 846 thousand 384, with a decrease of 17.5%. The share of first-hand house sales in total house sales was 31%, and the share of second-hand house sales was 69%.

Istanbul ranked first in housing sales

In housing sales, Istanbul ranked first with 198 thousand 739 sales and a share of 16.2%. According to sales numbers, this province was followed by Ankara with 114 thousand 432 house sales and a 9.3%share, and Izmir with 65 thousand 465 house sales and a 5.3% share. The provinces with the lowest number of house sales were Ardahan with 426 houses, Hakkari with 501 houses and Tunceli with 970 houses.

The number of housing sales across Turkiye was recorded as 138 thousand 577 last month, decreasing by 33.4% compared to December 2022. During this period, Istanbul ranked first with 23 thousand 714 house sales and a share of 17.1%. According to sales numbers, Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 11 thousand 458 house sales and a share of 8.3%, and Izmir with 7 thousand 166 house sales and a 5.2% share.

The province with the lowest house sales was recorded as Hakkari with 65 houses.
