Turkiye: $290 million of income from dried apricot exports

In Malatya apricots, an income of $290 million was obtained in return for the export of 50 thousand 777 tons of dried apricots in the 9 months of the year.

In Malatya, where the February 6 earthquakes, described as the “disaster of the century”, caused great destruction, dried apricot exports make a great contribution to the city’s economy.

Malatya Commodity Exchange President Ramazan Ozcan stated that despite the negative effects of the Kahramanmaras-centered earthquakes, exporters are making efforts to continue exports of dried apricots.

Ozcan stated that although there has been a slowdown in apricot exports from time to time, exports to Europe and America, and recently to Brazil and India, have gained momentum, and that exports in September increased compared to other months.

Pointing out that dried apricot exports are important for the city, country and regional economy, Ozcan said:

“Next winter, with the cooling of the weather, serious, high consumption of dried fruit groups begins. We exported 6 thousand 533 tons of dried apricots in September, and we completed this month with the highest average of previous years. We have exported approximately $40 million. If we maintain our export amount in the next quarter, we will achieve a significant success at the end of the year. In the dried fruit group, dried apricots are one of the most important agricultural products. When we look at Turkiye’s total agricultural product exports, dried apricots are an agricultural product that is now reaching new targets, bypassing $500 million.”
