Istanbul ranked 267th in Numbeo’s cost of living index: 63% cheaper than New York

Numbeo’s cost of living index, namely the cost of living index, has been updated. This index shows the relative prices of consumer goods such as food, restaurants, transportation and utilities. However, it does not cover accommodation expenses such as rent.

According to the calculation made in dollars, the most expensive and cheap cities in the world were determined. In the index where 362 cities are listed, Bermuda’s Hamilton city ranks first with 137 points. There are five cities from Switzerland among the top 10 most expensive: Zurich is second, Basel is third, Lausanne is fourth, Geneva is sixth, Bern is eighth.

San Jose, from the US state of California, is in fifth place, while San Francisco is in seventh place. Washington ranks ninth, while New York ranks 10th. There are 13 US cities in the top 20 of the list.

Singapore, which ranked first on the list in December 2023, ranked 30th this time.

CITIES IN TURKIYE ARE AMONG THE TOP CITIES

From Turkiye, Istanbul ranked 267th in the list of 362 cities. While Antalya ranked 269th, Izmir ranked 284th, Ankara ranked 292nd, and Bursa ranked 305th.

Moscow, the capital of Russia, ranks 268th after Istanbul, while Skopje from Macedonia ranks 266th.

63% CHEAPER THAN NEW YORK

In the index calculations made in dollar terms, the score given to Istanbul is 36.4. This figure shows that it is 63.6% cheaper than New York, which was given 100 points.

There are 16 Indian cities in the last 21 places of the list. The last three cities of Pakistan are Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. There is one city each from Iran and Nigeria.
