Turkey: Decision to reduce VAT rate to 1% will accelerate urban transformation

Environment and Urbanization Minister Murat Kurum said that the decision to reduce the VAT rate to 1% in case of the demolition of risky buildings will accelerate the urban transformation and the process will accelerate with this decision that will support the citizens at the VAT point.

Murat Kurum, Minister of Environment and Urbanization, made examinations in Yusufeli Dam, which is under construction in Yusufeli district of Artvin. On the question of what would be the benefits of the decision published in the Official Gazette to reduce the VAT rate from 18% to 1% in case of demolition of risky buildings, he said “Urban transformation is the most important agenda item of our country. The most important project of our Ministry.”

In this context, the institution underlined that, as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan explained in Elazig, they are working to transform 1.5 million houses in Turkey within 5 years.

The Minister Institution underlined that, with the decision published in the Official Gazette today, if the rightful citizens who build their own constructions construct 1.5 times their own constructions in risky buildings, they reduce the VAT rate from 18% to 1% and made the following assessment:

“Within this framework, such a decision has been taken to pave the way for and accelerate urban transformation in risky buildings. I am sure that this decision will accelerate the urban transformation and support our citizens at the VAT point, and the process will accelerate. Of course, other supports of our Ministry also continue. I hope we want to complete the urban transformation process in line with the goal we set.”
